Het is 30 maart 1924, Moeders Zondag. Dit is de dag waarop al het huispersoneel vrij krijgt voor familiebezoek. Jane Fairchild (Odessa Young) is het dienstmeisje van de gegoede familie Nivens (Colin Firth, Olivia Colman). De Nivens gaan die dag traditiegetrouw lunchen met de Sheringhams. Jane heeft zelf geen familie meer.
Zij gebruikt de vrije dag om in het geheim haar minnaar Paul (Josh O'Connor) te ontmoeten. Hij is de zoon van de Sheringhams. De dag neemt een dramatische wending, maar Jane zal haar ervaringen gebruiken om uit te groeien tot een gevierd schrijfster.
Regisseur Eva Husson maakte een oogstrelende verfilming van de succesvolle roman van Graham Swift. Met Odessa Young als Jane, en daarnaast Olivia Colman (THE FATHER), Colin Firth (SUPERNOVA) en Josh O’Connor (THE CROWN). MOTHERING SUNDAY werd geselecteerd voor het Filmfestival van Cannes.

It's March 30, 1924, Mother's Sunday. This is the day on which all domestic workers are given time off for family visits. Jane Fairchild (Odessa Young) is the maid of the wealthy Nivens (Colin Firth, Olivia Colman) family. The Nivens traditionally have lunch that day with the Sheringhams. Jane has no family of her own anymore.
She uses the day off to secretly meet her lover Paul (Josh O'Connor). He is the son of the Sheringhams. The day takes a dramatic turn, but Jane will use her experiences to become a celebrated writer.
Director Eva Husson made an eye-catching film adaptation of the successful novel by Graham Swift. Starring Odessa Young as Jane, as well as Olivia Colman (THE FATHER), Colin Firth (SUPERNOVA) and Josh O'Connor (THE CROWN). MOTHERING SUNDAY was selected for the Cannes Film Festival in 2021.
